North holds three kinds of thing about you: your account, the work you put into it, and the little that a website learns about a visitor. This page follows each of them to the company that actually touches it, because "we take your privacy seriously" is not information.
The work you give North
Your call notes, client details, scope, prices, proposals, contracts and invoices live in a database hosted by Supabase, which also handles sign-in. It is your content. North stores it so it can draft from it and show it back to you, and for nothing else.
When you ask North to draft or rework something, the relevant notes and context are sent to Anthropic, whose model does the drafting. Anthropic's API terms say that content sent through the API is not used to train their models. That is the whole of what leaves the building for the AI to work: the material for the thing you asked for, when you asked for it.
Your work is never sold, never used to advertise to you, and never pooled with other freelancers' work to produce a "market rate." If North ever wants to build pricing intelligence from its users, it will ask first and take only what people opt into.
Your client's side
Your client gets a private link to a deal room. To read the proposal they need nothing. To sign the contract they verify their email address once, so the signature is bound to a real person, and that address and the time of signing are kept as part of the signed record. If they leave a note on shown work, the note is stored on the project and shown to you in full.
The emails that carry those links (proposal sent, invoice sent, a reminder you chose to send) go out through Resend. Nothing is emailed to a client that you did not press send on.
Money
Card payments run through Stripe, on your own connected Stripe account. The checkout page is Stripe's, the card details go to Stripe, and North never sees or stores a card number. What North receives back is the fact of the payment and its amount, which is how the invoice gets marked paid. If you take the Pro plan, that subscription is also handled by Stripe, with the same arrangement.
The website and the app
The app itself is hosted and served by Vercel. The sign-in and sign-up forms carry an invisible bot check from Cloudflare that reads how a request behaves rather than what you type, so the people who reach North are people; it never asks you to click on traffic lights.
Analytics are limited to a count of which pages are visited, with no cookies and no profile of you. There are no advertising pixels on this site, and we do not buy data about you from anyone.
What you can take back
Everything, at any time, on any plan, including the day you cancel. From Settings you can export every client, project, proposal, contract and invoice, as a structured data file and as a readable document. There is deliberately no plan check on that door.
Deleting your account is done by email during the beta. Write to hello@asknorth.com and it is handled by hand.
What is not finished
This page and the privacy policy are plain-language accounts of how things work today, written by the person who built the thing rather than by a lawyer. A counsel-reviewed policy is the next step, and both pages will say so until it is done. If anything here matters to your decision to use North, ask before you decide, at the same address.
Common questions
- Is my client's information used to train AI models?
- No. When North drafts something, the relevant notes are sent to Anthropic's API to generate the result, and Anthropic's API terms state that this content is not used to train their models. Nothing you enter is used to train anything of ours either, and nothing about your rates or clients is pooled across North accounts for benchmarking.
- Does North see my clients' card numbers?
- Never. Card payments run on Stripe's hosted checkout page, connected to your own Stripe account. The card details go to Stripe directly; North sees that a payment succeeded and for how much, which is what it needs to mark the invoice paid.
- How do I delete my account?
- During the beta, by email: write to hello@asknorth.com and it is done by hand. Export everything first if you want it, from Settings, on any plan. A self-service delete button is on the list; we would rather say it is handled by hand than pretend there is a screen for it.
